Another day, another hit song involving Kiernan Forbes. Yup, the man is truly on a roll this year and is living up to his promise that 2017 will be all about music. He kicked off the year nicely with The World Is Yours. The song dominated SA radio stations for 6 consecutive weeks, retaining #1 on the Local Music Playlist Top 100 Chart.
After months of speculation, AKA X Anatii released their second collaboration together titled 10 FINGERS, which was pegged to be an even bigger hit than The SAGA. The jury is still out on that one, but after the release of the music video, it promises to be. In less than a month since its release on YouTube, 10 FINGERS has gained more than half the views of THE SAGA, which is more than two years old.
For many, the song confirmed that the two had finally made up after their beef. Where it all began? The pair were once inseparable but their relationship went off in 2015 when AKA accused Anatii of quoting him R80 000 for a beat. AKA would mention this on Composure, a diss track directed largely towards Cassper Nyovest, on the very beat Anatii had quoted him 80K on (we aren’t making this stuff up).
Anatii responded to this by threatening to take legal action against AKA over Composure, claiming not only the beat but the opening verse too.
Fast forward to August 2016, the pair had made up with AKA revealing on Metro FM that he visited Anatii at his studio where they spoke things out. 10 FINGERS assured Hip Hop fans that they had really made up, and according to AKA, there is more to come. “I’m looking forward to hearing how much the fans love this song. What a smash. This is only the beginning…” expressed AKA after the release of 10 FINGERS.
This week AKA, again, surprised fans when L-Tido dropped Thixo, featuring him and Yanga. Those that have been following the Supamega and L-Tido will know the pair haven’t seen eye to eye since around 2009. The beef started when L-Tido dropped a song and AKA said he ain’t feeling it on his Facebook account. A few rap battles later, and subliminally dissing each other on songs, their tiff eventually fizzled out. With the release of Thixo, AKA has really set the tone for the rest of the year; it’s really all about music. We can’t wait for those two albums before the end of the year!
